The Choice is Yours

For a Civil Ceremony The Long Gallery is licensed for 100 guests, whilst for smaller weddings The Round Library can accommodate 35 guests. Following the Civil Ceremony or after a Registry Office Wedding elsewhere you could arrange to have a Blessing in The Cromwellian Chapel.

Following the Civil Ceremony, or if you arrive at Littlecote after being married in a Church nearby, drinks can be served outside on the extensive lawns when the weather is fine. Alternatively drinks can be arranged in The Great Hall for winter weddings or when the weather dictates!

For larger weddings you can choose to have a traditional sit down Reception in either The Long Gallery or in The Orangery. For a smaller number of guests The Great Hall is ideal

If you are planning an evening party with dancing, The Orangery accommodates around 150 guests. The disco or band can be set up in The Octagonal Room which has a dance floor. A cash bar and buffet can be provided if required.

Whatever your ideas or plans we can help with all the various options available to ensure the day is tailor made to suit you, your family and your guests.

With all the different options available Littlecote is suitable for either small or large weddings, as well as the ones inbetween!

The State Rooms

When you choose to have your wedding and reception at Littlecote, The State Rooms are all available depending on the choices you make.

There are few venues available that are perfect for either winter or summer weddings, and Littlecote lives up to expectations at any time or month of the year.

The Great Hall for drinks and receptions. The South Porch leads through the finely carved Elizabethan screen into the impressive oak panelled and fan-vaulted Great Hall. Decorated with flowers and candles, with a log fire burning in winter, it is ideal for welcoming your guests and for having drinks.

The Long Gallery is oak panelled with a beautiful plasterwork ceiling dating back to the early Tudors. Lined with family portraits it is licensed for Civil Ceremonies. This room is also a lovely setting for a traditional sit down meal and Reception. The Oriel Window overlooks the lawns and walled gardens with views across the park.

The Chinese Room, richly decorated with Chinoiserie panels painted in 1810, is furnished with comfortable sofas and armchairs. The perfect place for guests who would like to relax during the reception or party.

The Round Library is licensed for small weddings. Another quiet room for guests to relax in, the windows overlook the newly designed Tudor style White Garden.

The Orangery is ideal for an evening party, but can also be used for the traditional sit down meal and Reception. With evergreen plants and ivy The Orangery is another lovely setting at any time of the year.

The Octagonal Room adjoining The Orangery has a dance floor and is therefore ideally suited for a disco or a band for an evening party.

Although The Chapel is not licensed for either Civil Ceremonies or religious services, a Blessing can be arranged in the Cromwellian Chapel with its fine oak panelling and original pews.

History of Littlecote House

The original manor house with the deer park dates from around 1290 and was later rebuilt and extended around 1520. It was at Littlecote that Henry VIII courted Jane Seymour and they married at Wulf Hall nearby in 1536.

Queen Elizabeth I was received at Littlecote in 1601 by which time further additions had been made, including The Long Gallery, and the early medieval hall had been converted into a Chapel. During the Civil War Littlecote became a Cromwellian stronghold, but when Charles II was returned to the throne in 1660 the family received a Royal Pardon and entertained the King to ‘a costly dinner’ during his progress to Bath. On the way to London to claim the throne in 1688, William of Orange stayed for two nights after meeting with the Commissioners of King James II.

With the arrival of the 18th century Littlecote enjoyed more peaceful times, and restoration work around 1810 led to the building of The Orangery and The Chinese Room whilst the landscaped gardens were extensively restored.

Remains have been found showing there was a Bronze Age settlement at Littlecote. Recently, the foundations of a Roman Villa with a well preserved highly decorative mosaic floor was discovered in the grounds, showing that the site was inhabited before the original manor house was built in medieval times.

Today, this beautiful mansion set in the landscaped park is the perfect venue for a wedding.
